Production - Editing Final Task #6

Image
Done! Nailed it! Filming has been completed and all footage has been reviewed and is ready to go. I have a about 75 clips that I can use to edit my opening sequence. For the outdoor scenes, I did end up having to shoot scenes over the course of a few nights. I was smart on the first night though. I only focused on shooting the scenes that involved my dad playing the Ghost. That way I would not have to worry about redoing his makeup the exact same way for any reshoots. I shot enough clips that I will be able to have something usable when I go to editing. The other outdoor scenes were shot over the course of three nights. I was lucky enough to pick times and nights that saw very little activity on my street.  The filming process was clearly pretty rough for me until I hit my stride. In the beginning, I was feeling very overwhelmed. Throughout filming I also changed as few things here and there, like I didn't exactly follow my storyboard or strayed from the original script. Ther...

Spring Break

Image
I'm so exited for spring break. It'll finally give me time to relax and possibly help my mental health. Though it does also give me time to get caught up on some work, but I'm mainly looking forward to that extra sleep I'll get. It'd also be nice if I got to see my friends, I haven't seen them in so long.

Production - Filming Final Task #5

Filming is moving along pretty well now. I am far less stressed and am confident things should go smoothly from here on out.  I reviewed the scenes I filmed and there were a couple of issues, but they can be reshot next week when I finish up filming and focus on the reshoots. I started shooting the outdoor scenes, but traffic was busy on my street and I just couldn't get the shots without way too much background noise. By the time things quieted down, it was too dark to film anything. Those are two things I didn't anticipate. Firstly, I didn't realize the time crunch there would be filming at near dark and dark. There is such a small window between dusk and way too dark to film. Secondly, I seriously did not anticipate how busy my street would be. My mom kept having to yell, "CAR!" every five minutes it seemed. My dad was a good sport and said he doesn't mind having to do the ghost makeup again. His scenes will definitely need a reshoot since I am not sure I ...

Production - Filming Final Task #4

The last two days of filming were great! Making a list really helped. Also, taking a step back and regrouping really did wonders for my mindset. I was so focused on what was going wrong that I couldn't see the solution. It was a vicious circle I had a hard time breaking out of. I was so worried I was going to get backed up in my filming, and that was making my anxiety even worse. Taking a break and rethinking was definitely what I needed to do. I think filming the angles I needed, of unrelated footage, helped as well. Filming was much smoother and much less stressful. While I did not do more than was on my list, I did finish the list.  Yeah, me! The scenes I focused on were the indoor scenes. Particularly the ones in the bedroom. The interaction between Lachlan and Hiro were important to me. That is where the real comedy is supposed to happen. I reshot all the scenes I had  already shot and asked my dad for some help with the camera this time. My stand was just not cutt...

Production - Filming Final Task #3

Day two of filming was not much better than the first. I was still having some of the same issues, but my biggest problem was that I wasn't liking the scenes I was shooting. I am just not achieving what I envisioned in my storyboard. At this point, I am so frustrated that I feel like I can't move forward. My brain is stuck on the problems and I cannot focus on the solution. I was in such a state of anxiety today that I just had to stop filming for the day. We didn't even get anything usable. I was very exasperated. I figured the best thing to do was to take a step back and regroup. I need to try and come at this at a different angle and change my approach to what I am filming. Build some kind of plan of attack. I think one of the first things I need to do is not focus on getting a whole block of scenes done in one day. Maybe if I just focus on one scene at a time, I will be less stressed while I am filming. Not that I have all the time in the world, but I feel that attitud...

Production - Filming Final Task #2

First day of filming was super frustrating. Nothing was working out right. I had such a hard time getting the correct angles and making sure the lighting matched. My friend Faith came over to help with filming and while they are a great helper, I think they had a hard time getting my vision. One scene alone, we had to reshoot six different times. I even tried it 3 different ways and I still did not like it. It is definitely a scene that will need a reshoot or two. The other issues we had was getting the sound right. Faith has a very quiet voice, so it was hard catching their voice in the video. The other sound problem we had was my little dog kept barking and it seemed like every delivery person possible showed up to day. That caused my big dog to start barking.  I really wanted to get all of the scenes in the house completed today. With all the interruptions, that just did not happen. At best we got maybe 3 scenes done. And I am not confident that they are the best. I am 95%...

Production - Gathering Props & Test Makeup Final Task #1

Image
As I get ready to begin filming, I am gathering up all of the props I need and thinking about how I want the ghost to look at the end of the opening sequence. I started by pulling together what goes into each backpack. Lachlan is the more serious of the two, so their backpack will be loaded with things that would be of good use in ghost hunting. Things like flashlights, notebooks, chalk, salt, and maybe some rope. Hiro is the goofier of the two, and based on what goes into their backpack, you can see what it clearly more important to them. Snacks. Their backpack will be loaded with chocolate, chips, jerky, and other delicious snacks. Maybe even a bottle of water or two because HAIL, HYDRATE! By the way, have you drank any water today? Go drink some! Moving on, I also believe that what the characters will be wearing will be important to convey the night and day difference between our two leads. I also need to decide what my Ghost character will be wearing. I want them to look ghost...

Planning for Final Task: Titles

Image
The opening credits of my title sequence will appear in a quirky font and either appear at the top or bottom of the screen or slide in and out in the corners of the screen. For example, the more important credits will appear at the top or bottom and the lesser credits will slide on and off. The working title of my movie is "Lachlan & Hiro: Paranormal PI" It will be in a quirky style and either on the top or bottom of the screen. I have not decided yet. It will look something like this.  I want the the rest of the titles to slide onto the screen and slide off the screen...not whole words, but letter by letter. I really like the way that looks. They will just be on for a second or 2.  I will be sticking to white fonts but may change to a bright blue if the white does not work out in the end. The job being performed will be a size or two smaller than the person 's performing the jobs name. I was considering using a typewriter like font for the job titles, but the quirky ...
