Title Research: Austin Powers Goldmember

Title Research: Watch the Titles Website

Image
I researched the website Watch the Titles! to learn more about title sequences and how to make great ones. I really enjoyed this site. I think I even liked it better than Art of the Title. It showed a wide variety of title sequence examples from movie and TV to student projects and video games. What I also liked about this website was that it also showed you various designers and studios that create title sequences. I really enjoyed watching some of the interviews with designers, and that really helped understanding what goes into making a great title sequence. Aside from watching interviews I was really able to see so many different types of title sequences. I spent a lot of time going watching all the different title sequences. I even learned about "French Fridays". It's not something I am particularly interested in, but it was kind of cool. I got a lot of really great insight into making title sequences.  https://www.watchthetitles.com/app/uploads/2008/07/Carnivale-mai...

Title Research: Art of the Title Website

Image
I was looking at the website The Art of the Title to study up on various title sequences. I was hoping to learn what makes a successful title sequence. I  was able to see many title sequences for the most popular movies and TV shows out there. I also read a great article about the top 10 title sequences of 2020. What I learned looking through the site was that some of the best title sequences are very dynamic and keep the viewer engaged, even before the movie or TV show starts. What I found most interesting is that most of these sequences used more artwork than images of the characters or scenes from a show. They also mostly had a limited color palette that kind of sets the vibe for the show or movie. The music was also a key factor in the sequences for getting you ready, or in a mood, for what you are about to watch. Many action movies use music that gasses you up before the action even starts.                        ...

I liked the funny play on British stereotypes to make something more comical. That is something I would like to use. Not quite sure i could pull it off though. I thought the use of  the 90's color transitions definitely helped the movie with its progression. It was funny and very eye pleasing. Some of the settings were a bit weird because they didn't look the best, but other then that I didn't think anything was wrong with it.

I love how Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall play more then just one character. It makes the movie way funnier and I defiantly want to add it into my task. I liked the use of make-up and the acting. When I found out that Eddie Murphy was also the white guy in the barber shop I was shocked. I could not believe that was him! The way how they did his make-up was amazing and very realistic. I would have never guessed there was a Black man under that makeup. It was truly amazing. There wasn't really any elements that I didn't like in the movie. Every part of it was perfect for me. There is nothing I would change. I will say that some of the camera angles were a little weird. Also, some of the royal costuming looked a little cheap to me.

Genre Decision Blog

Image
The genre that I will be using is comedy. The reason why I'm choosing comedy is because I've always loved to make people laugh. Making people laugh is something that makes me feel good and happy. I would love to one day make content the people will love and laugh at, and to start that off I'll make my opening short a comedy piece.

Genre Research: Horror

Image
I showed all the camera angles and sounds that horror movies usually use. I showed lists of common elements and locations. I also showed some examples of how the make-up and setting look. I really wanted to show all aspects of what makes horror movies "horror movies". Lighting, angles, and sound are so very important when making horror movies. I was really trying to communicate that with this powerpoint. I chose to do horror because I really love the genre. Everything about it fascinates me, but to be honest, the villains are really my favorites.  There really is nothing better than a good old fashioned slasher flick. I even love the really bad looking ones, like in Hatchet and Toxic Avenger.  Spooky horror is good too. It's very creepy and when done correctly I can look amazing. Some are so good, they don't even have to show ghosts or blood or anything. Those really aren't my favorite ones though. I think my mother has a greater appreciation for those. I need to ...

I really enjoyed the use of camera angles in this movie. Some made it more comical whiles others made it more action packed. In my task I wanna try to incorporate some of these angles into my intro. I thought the editing and sounds were very awesome. They went well with the scenes. Especially the scene with Star Lord walking and dancing while listening to his music. I thought that was a nice touch. I can't think of anything that I didn't really like. I honestly loved everything was done. Though it did fill like it was a little fast paced at times.

My Pitch

Image
Pitch #1 I t's a comedy about these two kids who go around and look for ghosts in places that have had sightings and or some sort of paranormal activity going on. Pitch#2 It's a comedy about two kids that get chased around by an escaped mental patient, but the killer is super clumsy and keeps tripping or hurting themselves.  In Pitch #1, I just really like the idea of it. I think it would be a lot funnier than pitch #2 with more opportunities for hilarious jump scares. I feel like the characters would get into more interesting situations and make for a much better, more engaging movie. There is also more room for character development. I also believe there would be more opportunity for there to be sequels to this movie. I can already envision the characters, complete opposites. One character is very serious about the whole thing and the other is super goofy and cracking jokes the whole time. Their dynamic will add to the comedic aspect of this movie. While the idea of Pitch #2 ...

Starting Your Final Task

Image
My name is Stellan Glock. I am 17 year old trans/genderfluid person at Fort Lauderdale High School. I love horror movies and comedies and think it's best when they are blended together. I tend to watch more horror comedies than any other genre of movie. In my free time I do a lot of drawing. I really enjoy creating my own characters and putting them down on paper. I also play video games in my time and spend time with my dogs Buck and Momo. I am working on my final task alone because I don't really know anyone else in the class. I would have liked to work with a group, but it just seemed risky with everything happening right now. Unfortunately, with Covid going on, I don't know that I want to add new people to my bubble.  In creating my final task, my partner Faith will be assisting me. They will mostly be performing in the final, but may also assist me with production by offering advice. They have assisted me in other projects and we work really well together. I have actu...
